This time of year, we can all get mighty distracted by all the hubbub and totally miss the real Reason for the Season. This quote by C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) is worth pondering. REALLY pondering.
Here are just a very few compelling facts to consider as you open, empty, flatten, and discard your Amazon boxes:
Christmas = "Christ's Mass" = Messiah (Savior, Deliverer) + Mass (Commemorating the Last Supper and Jesus’ bodily sacrifice for the sins of mankind).
Number of Believers = 2.2 billion or >31% of the world’s population and far exceeding other beliefs, however meaningful. Objectively, In terms of cost-benefit, it's the best deal going.
The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, with 5 billion copies in >3,300 languages (all or part).
Gregorian Calendar – Most of the world uses a calendar framed around Christ’s birth, B.C., A.D.
Jesus, the God-man influencer who inspired all this was a carpenter’s son, born in a small-town barn. Quite a departure from the fame and fortune-driven celebrity culture of today and yet with enduring, immeasurable impact. No other facts nullify these truths.
During these wonky times, please ask yourself Lewis’s implied question:
If Jesus is for real and Christianity is true, what do we need to do? ❤️💚❤️
Merry, Merry CHRISTMas!
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
