Victory That Lasts

CORRECTED: Please forgive me, beautiful Angelenos! How could I?
The World Series is underway, pitting the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Toronto Blue Jays after Toronto’s stunning Game 7 upset over the Seattle Mariners. At the top of the eighth inning, it seemed the Mariners had the pennant locked up—until George Springer’s three-run blast turned defeat into destiny. In a single swing, everything changed.
That moment feels like more than baseball. It echoes a deeper truth: victory often comes just when all hope seems lost. In Revelation, Jesus delivers the ultimate comeback—the final word on good’s triumph over evil. He promises that those who remain steadfast will wear a crown and share His throne, reigning with Him forever.
The prince of darkness who ruled for a season is now being trampled underfoot—a long-foretold victory won at Calvary.
And maybe that’s a word for those who’ve been playing through extra innings—tired, tested, and down by runs that seem impossible to recover. To the faithful few who’ve held on with little strength yet refused to walk off the field, Jesus says, “I have placed before you an open door that no one can close… hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” (Revelation 3:8, 11)
Who knew there was a World Series trophy? Not me. How fitting that it looks like a crown.
Whether you’ve been playing for years, sat out in doubt, or are wondering if you’ve been on the wrong team, take heart—there’s still time. Jesus only rebukes and disciplines those He loves. If you’re feeling the sting of conviction, that’s not condemnation—it’s an invitation. The Holy Spirit is calling you home, reminding you the final victory has already been won. Repent in earnest, step back onto the field, and play for the One who already holds the crown.
