Wonderful Counselor

I’ve had a few counselors in my life, along with mentors and sponsors. Some were wise and caring; others weren’t a great fit, or carried bias and baggage. Still others were harsh or overly critical. All were human—and therefore fallible.

Not Jesus. He’s perfect, knows me perfectly, and offers perfect counsel. Wonderful Counselor indeed.

Looking back, much of what brought me to counseling came from living out of alignment with God’s design—for me, my life, and my place in the world. And some came from others living out of alignment too.

Therapy can’t fix that. I could’ve spared myself many co-pays if I’d consulted my Designer first—the One who knows and loves me best. God offers wisdom—and remedies—for all of it.

I deeply value therapeutic insight and recovery principles, and there’s definitely a place for both. But now, before I schedule appointments, I consult my Owner’s Manual and ask if I’m living according to God’s truth and remembering who He says I am.

I’m comforted that Jesus’ first sermon from Isaiah proclaims good news, freedom, healing, and release for the oppressed.

He restores what (and who) was lost!

That covers a lot of therapeutic ground—and it’s truly Good News.

PRACTICE: Are you hurting? Are you living out of alignment with your intended design? Ask Jesus for help and healing as you step back into who you are in Him—and seek the human help you may need along the way.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for the human helpers You place in our lives. Give us discernment as we choose them, and remind us to come to You first. Thank You for Your liberating love, healing, and guidance. Amen. Thank You. I love You. 💖
